Some access routes to and from the 14th Street Bridge have been changed as the result of a bridge rebuilding project expected to take about two years to complete.
While it is being rebuilt, two-way traffic is being maintained across the bridge and three lanes of the bridge remain open at all times. Access from the Southwest Freeway and 15th Street remains unchanged.
Drivers approaching the bridge from 14th Street NW or who want to reach 14th Street from the bridge are required to detour at certain times. Outbound drivers approaching the bridge from 14th Street will detour to 15th Street NW or to the Southwest Freeway via 12th or 9th streets at all times except 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. weekdays. Outbound drivers will be able to proceed down 14th Street to the bridge without a detour during those hours.
Drivers taking the 14th Street Bridge into the District must detour from 3 to 7 p.m. on weekdays. Inbound drivers will detour into the Southwest Freeway to 12th or 9th streets. At all other times, inbound drivers will be able to proceed directly to 14th Street from the bridge.
The detour will permit reconstruction of the bridge access structures over Maine Avenue, Ohio Drive and the Tidal Basin Outlet Channel.
