Eleanor W. Roderick, 44, a former area elementary teacher who was an aide to Rep. George Hansen (R?-Idaho), died Friday in a hospital in New York City where she was being treated for cancer.
Mrs. Roderick was a native of Saint Anthony, Idaho, and a graduate of Brigham Young University. Before coming to Washington in 1965, she had taught the children of America servicemen in West Germany and taught elementary school in Palo, Alto, Calif.
Between 1965 and 1967, she taught public elementary school in Arlington and Montgomery counties, then joined the staff of Rep. Hansen. She spent about two years on his staff in the 1960s, and had rejoined it earlier this year.
She was a member of the Potomac Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Mrs. Roderick had been a vocalist with several groups in Montgomery County that performed at church and civic functions.
Survivors include her husband, Lee, a daughter, Angela, and two sons, Eric, and Justin, all of Rockville; her mother, Blanche B. Westerberg of Rexburg, Idaho; two brothers, T. Bates Westerberg of New York City, and Dennis Westerberg of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and a sister, Carol Stoddard of Idaho Falls.
