Denzil Reed (Bill) Shawver, 51, an agent with the New York Life Insurance Co. offices in Washington, died of a viral infection Oct. 23 at the Rappahammock General Hospital in Kilmarnock, Va. He lived in Alexandria and White Stone, Va.
Mr. Shawver joined the insurance company in 1962. He was a member of its Top Club and of its Million Dollar Round Table.
He was born in Indianapolis, and served with the U.S. Navy from 1948 to 1952. He then worked for 10 years for the Wyeth Laboratories in Indianapolis.
Mr. Shawver was a past president of the Alexandria Lions Club. He was a past director of the Alexandria Cancer Society and the Virginia Hospital Corporation. A 32-degree Mason, he was a member of the Scottish Rite in Alexandria.
He was a lay leader of the Asbury United Methodist Church in Foxwells, Va.
He is survived by his wife, Anita W., of White Stone; a daughter, Cynthia Broyhill of Alexandria; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey G. Shawver of Indianapolis; a sister, Betty H. Schilling of St. Louis County, Mo.; and two grandchildren.
The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to Asbury United Methodist Church.
