Three Maryland men were arrested at their homes yesterday in connection with the slaying Monday night of two persons found shot in a burning van on a rural road near Upper Marlboro, Prince George's County police reported.
John Harold Martin, 19, of 3420 Dodge Park Rd. Landover, and David Williams, 30, of 8132 Allendale Drive, Palmer Park, were charged with two counts each of first degree murder and were held without bond.
A third man, Steven Dove of 8133 Allendale Drive, was charged with two counts of being an accessory after the fact to the murders and was held in lieu of bond.
Police still have not released the identity of one of the slaying victims, a man found in the burning van 60 feet from Brook Lane near Brown Station Road. The body, burned beyond recognition, was discovered after passersby reported the fire, which fire officials termed "suspicious."
The second victim, also badly burned, was identified as Betty Anne Johnson, 25, of 1st Street NW in Washington.
Gunshot wounds were discovered in both bodies by the Maryland Medical Examiner's office after a preliminary autopsy Tuesday, according to Prince George's County police.
Police have declined to speculate on the motive for the double slaying.
