All federal, state and local government offices in the Washington area will be closed tomorrow, Christmas Day, except those that provide emergency or essential services. On Friday, only Maryland state and suburban county offices in Prince George's and Montgomery counties, and local Virginia offices in Alexandria and Arlington will be open. All other U.S., state and local offices will be closed Friday.

All area schools be closed tomorrow and will remain closed on winter break until after the new year begins.

Trash will not be collected in the metropolitan area tomorrow and pickup schedules during the rest of the week will vary by jurisdiction. In Arlington and Fairfax counties, regular Thursday collections will be made today The rest of the week will be as normally scheduled.

In Alexandria and the District of Columbia, collections normally scheduled for Thursday and Friday will be made today. No trash will be collected on Thursday and Friday in Falls Church; pickups there will be resumed next week on regular schedules.

Thursday trash pickup in Prince George's and Montgomery counties will be made the following Monday. Supercan Thursday and Friday collections in D.C. will be made on Friday.

Banks and most area stores will be closed tomorrow, but will be open Friday. Liquor stores in Virginia and Montgomery County will be closed on Christmas, but will be open Friday. District of Columbia and Prince George's County stores are not required to close on Christmas. There will be no mail deliveries Friday.

Metrobus and Metrorail will operate on a Sunday schedule tomorrow and on a Saturday schedule on Friday. Weekday traffic regulations in Washington will not be in effect tomorrow, but will be enforced Friday Weekday parking regulations will not be in effect either tomorrow or Friday.
