Two men suspected of armed robbery were critically injured Saturday night when their 1970 Lincoln crashed during a high-speed chase by District and Prince George's County police. Investigators reported finding a revolver and bag of money in the wrecked car.

Area police had been seeking the vehicle, allegedly used during a holdup on Friday at the Star Carry-Out shop at 4426 Wheeler Rd. in Oxon Hill. D.C. police officers spotted it in the District Saturday, but the two men refused to stop and drive toward the District line.

Crossing into Maryland, the suspects' car was pursued by two Prince George's County patrol cars south along Wheeler Road. It failed to make a turn onto St. Barnabas Road and jumped the curb onto the lawn of a residence. A collision with a tree and chain fence damaged the car heavily and pinned the two men inside.

Rescue workers sent Bennie Guess, 27, of 4003 Wheeler Rd. SE, to Prince George's General Hospital by helicopter, where he was listed in critical condition yesterday. The other man, Ronald Ballard, 30, of 4001 Wheeler Rd. SE, was reported in stable condition at Southern Maryland Hospital.

Prince George's County police said both men have been charged with armed robbery.
