The D.C. Commission for Women has reviewed announcements from various organizations offering apprenticeship training for women and is encouraging job-seeking women to take advantage of the following opportunities:
Tomorrow, the Operating Engineers Apprenticeship Committee of Local 77 will accept applications for heavy equipment operators and surveyors between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the local union office, 4546 Brittania Way, Suitland, Md.
From Jan. 5 through 16, the D.C. Joint Plumbing Apprentice Committee will review applications from 8 to 11 a.m. weekdays. Applicants, who must be at least 18, should bring a birth certificate, high school diploma or general education degree, along with a grade transcript. Transcripts of grades or GED test results may be mailed directly to the committee from high schools or educational institutions. Interested persons may apply at 8509 Ardwick-Ardmore Rd., Landove, Md.
Wider Opportunities for Women offers paid technical training opportunities in engine mechanics and the construction trades. Interested residents may apply at the D.C. Department of Employment Services Office, 500 C St. NW, Room 205, or call Joy Jones at 783-5155.
The D.C. Joint Electrical Apprenticeship and Training Committee, National Electrical Contractors Association, and Local 26, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, will be accepting apprenticeship applications from Jan. 2 through Feb. 27. Interested residents may apply between 9 a.m. and noon at 6200 Kansas Ave. NE. Applicants should bring their birth certificates or military discharge papers, high school diplomas or equivalent and a transcript of school courses and grades.
