The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority will eliminate three underused Metrobus routes in Montgomery County and add service to three others this week. Routes C3 and C5 will be cut, with GEICO trips eliminated on Route T4. New service to Montrose, The National Institutes of Health complex at Westbard and Rockville will be operated on Routes C7, T9 and Q4.

Routes C3 and C5:

After Jan. 2, these routes will be eliminated.

Route C7:

All trips will be rerouted via Executive Avenue as follows: outbound trips will operate by regular route to the intersection of Twinbrook Parkway and Rockville Pike, then to Rollins Avenue, Jefferson Street, Executive Boulevard, Old Georgetown Road, Rockville Pike and to the terminal at Korvettes fringe parking lot. Inbound trips will leave Korvettes via Rockville Pike, Old Georgetown Road, Executive Boulevard, Montrose Road, Rockville Pike, Twinbrook Parkway and the regular route.

Route T4:

All trips to GEICO will be eliminated beginning Jan. 4.

Route T9 (New Westbard Shuttle):

Three morning and three evening rush-hour trips will run between Friendship Heights and the Westbard complex of the National Institutes of Health. Morning trips will run from Friendship Heights terminal via Western Avenue, Wisconsin Avenue, Willard Avenue, River Road, Ridgefield Road and Westbard Avenue. Evening trips will begin at the stop in front of 5333 Westbard, and continue via Westbard Avenue, Ridgefield Road, River Road, Willard Avenue and Wisconsin Avenue to the Friendship Heights terminal.

Route Q4 (Veirs Mill Road Line):

New service to Rockville will run via Burnside Drive, Bauer Drive, Norbeck Road, Gude Drive, Taft Street, Lofstrand Lane, Southlawn Lane, Horners Avenue, Park Road, Hungerford Drive and Monroe Street.

Metrobus service changes related to the opening of two new Metrorail stations in Prince George's County are scheduled to take effect Jan. 4.

Several Metrobus routes which now end at Deanwood, Potomac Avenue or Stadium-Armory stations will be rerouted to serve the new Capitol Heights and Addison Road stations. The changes are designed to lower Metrobus operating costs charged to the Prince George's County government and financed by local taxes. A listing of the changes follows:

Route A12 (Palmer Highway Line):

This route will run between Capitol Plaza and the Addison Road station.Sunday trips will run between Capitol Plaza and Capitol Heights station.

Route F14 (Sheriff Road Line):

This route will run between the New Carrollton station and Bradbury Heights via the Capitol Heights and Addison Road stations. Inbound trips will operate via the regular route to Sheriff Road and Addison Road, then via Addison Road, Palmer Highway, 63rd Street, Southern Avenue, East Capitol Street, Addison Road station, Central Avenue, Larchmont Avenue, Marlboro Pike, Bowen Road and Ridge Road to the Terminal at Southern Avenue. Outbound trips will operate from the Ridge Road terminal to Southern Avenue, Marlboro Pike, Larchmont Avenue, Central Avenue, Addison Road, East Capitol Street extended, Davey Street, Capitol Heights station, Southern Avenue, 63rd Street, Palmer Highway, Addison Road, Sheriff Road and the regular route.

Route J12 (Marlboro Pike Line):

This route will run between Andrews Air Force Base and Addison Road Station via Marlboro Pike, Larchmont Avenue, Central Avenue and Addison Road.

Route J13 (Marlboro Pike Line):

This is a new designation for Route J12 service to 11th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue NW that is operated to and from Andrews Air Force Base when Metrorail is not operating. There is no route change.

Route J14 (Marlboro Pike Line):

This route runs between Ritchie Industrial Park and Addison Road station via Ashwood Drive, Dunmore Place, Edgeworth Drive, Ritchie Road, Kipling Parkway, Marlboro Pike, Larchmont Avenue, Central Avenue and Addison Road.

Route J16 (Marlboro Pike Line):

This route will be eliminated. It is replaced by portions of the new Routes A12, F14, j12 and j14 described above.

Route P12 (Eastover-Addison Road Line):

Northbound trips will run via the regular route to the intersection of Central Avenue and Peppermill Drive, then via Central Avenue to the Addison Road station. Southbound trips will operate from the station via Central Avenue, Shady Glen Drive and the regular route.

Route P14 (Deanwood-Addison Road Line):

This is a new designation for part of the old Route P12. It runs between Deanwood station and Addison Road station via the current P12 route to the intersection of Peppermill Drive and Central Avenue, then via Central Avenue to the Addison Road Station.

Routes T10 and T11 (Central Avenue-Belair Line):

This route will run between Belair, Kettering and the Capitol Heights station via the Addison Road station. Inbound trips will run via the regular route to the intersection of Central Avenue and Peppermill Drive, then continue via Central Avenue to the Addison Road station, leave the station via Addison Road and continue via East Capitol Street extended and Davey Street to the Capitol Heights station terminal.

Route V11 (District Heights Line):

This route will be eliminated. It is replaced by the new V12 and V14 routes.

Route V12 (Addison Road-Potomac Avenue Line):

This route will run between Addison Road station and Potomac Avenue station via Addison Road, Walker Mill Road, Rochelle Avenue and the current V12 route.

Route V14 (District Heights Line):

This route runs between Penn Mar and Addison Road station, and is a new designation for the eastern portion of current Route V12. Inbound trips will run from Penn Mar Shopping Center via Marlboro Pike, Boones Lane, Mason Street, Gateway Boulevard, Breton Drive, District Heights Parkway, Addison Street, Atwood Street, Rochelle Avenue, Walker Mill Road, Rollins Avenue, Brooke Road, Suffolk Avenue, Central Avenue and Addison Road to the station.

Route V15 (District Heights Line):

This is a new designation for the old Route V12 which operates between Penn Mar and 11th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue NW when Metrorail is not operating. Trips will bypass the Kipling and Marbury loop.
