On Sunday, January 11, 1981, at Washington Hospital Center, THOMAS W. HILLIARD JR. of Washington, D.C., son of Caroline Daeke Grumio of Clearwater, Fla., and the late Thomas W. Hilliard Sr.; brother of Elizabeth Levenstein of New York, Emma H. Harris of Annandale, Va., Ethel Patterson of Henderson, N.C., and Loretta Gervast of Sunrise, Fla. Mr. Hilliard was born in Warren County, N.C. He graduated from John ygraham High School in Warrenton, N.C., and from Johnson ybusiness School in Washington, D.C. He was employed by the C. B. Guthrie Tariff Bureau, Inc., for nearly 30 years, except for a brief period in the Army. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Bradbury Heights, where he was active in church affairs and first became active in the Boy Scouts, which was sponsored by the church, where he was troop leader for many years. For the past 17 years, he had been working closely with the High Adventure Committee, Boy Scouts of America. He made 11 trips to Philmont Scout Ranch, Cimarron, N.M., as an expedition leader. In 1980, he sponsored a scout, who would have been unable to go. At the time of his death he was working with the committee organizing a trip to Philmont for the summer of 1981. Memorial services will be held in North Carolina. The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contribution to High Adventure Committee, Boy Scouts of America, Bethesda, Md. 20014.
