The robbery suspect backing out of a McDonald's restaurant in Rosslyn on Wednesday night was holding two McDonald's take-out bags in one hand and a handgun in the other when Arlington police arrived.
Officer Noel Hanrehan fired once, hitting one bag right between the Golden Arches and releasing a small cascade of coins and bills, police spokesman Randall Bertsch said yeserday. When the man dropped both bags and ran, Hanrehan fired a second time and missed again. Hanrehan caught the suspect several blocks away.
Two other suspects, including one who police said they found lying on the floor of a car near the store at 1823 N. Moore St., also were arrested. All three were charged with armed robbery, and police are searching for one and possibly two other suspects, Bertsch said.
Charged were Michael O'Neil Barton, 21, Robert Ricardo Wilkinson, 20, and a youth who was charged as a juvenile, police said. All three live in the District of Columbia. Wilkinson was being held under bond of $80,000 and Barton in lieu of $60,000 bond at the Arlington jail.
The three will be arraigned today in General District Court in Arlington. A McDonald's spokesman declined comment.
