John Rocco Petruccelli, 21, an honors student who was in his senior year at St. Mary's College and a lifelong resident of the Washington area, died Thursday at the Baltimore Shock-Trauma Unit of injuries suffered in a traffic accident on Jan. 23.
Maryland State Police said Mr. Petruccelli was riding a bicycle on Willows Road in Lexington Park, Md., when he was struck by a motor vehicle. Police listed the incident as a hit-and-run accident. Lexington Park is near St. Mary's City, where St. Mary's College is located.
Mr. Petruccelli was born in Rockville and lived there all of his life. He was a 1977 graduate of Good Counsel High School in Wheaton and was a member of its drama club. At. St. Mary's College, he was majoring in political science and was the president of the school's Frisbee club.
Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur V. Petruccelli of Rockville; six brothers, Michael, Stephen and Vincent, all of Silver Spring, Paul, of Washington, and Christopher and Anthony, both of Rockville; three sisters, Kathryn, of Bethesda, Elizabeth, of Silver Spring, and Regina, of Rockville, and a grandmother, Teresa Petruccelli of Pompano Beach, Fla.
