Two Washington men were killed and two others seriously wounded Saturday night in a series of separate shooting incidents.

James Phillip Bowens, 40, of 150 U St. NW, got into a argument and was shot and killed about 7 p.m. while visting the home of a friend in the 2000 block of 1st Street NW. D.C. police said John Morris, 66, of 33 Bryant St. NW, was charged with murder in the slaying.

Three and a half hours later, Jerome Givens, 31, of 1326 U St. NW, was found sprawled on the sidewalk in front of 1816 12th St. NW. Givens, who had been shot once in the chest, was pronounced dead on arrival at Howard University Hospital. There have been no arrests in his death, police said.

At about the same time, Larry Scales, 35, of 2927 7th St. NE, was shot twice in the side by a man in a passing vehicle. The incident occured in the 1900 block of 13th Street NW. Scales was reported in fair condition yesterday at the Washington Hospital Center.

McClenon O. Chambers, 36, of 843 Bellevue St. SE, was returning home from the grocery store about 9 p.m. when a man with a gun approached him, demanded his money, then fired at Chambers several times, striking him once in the lower stomach. The man fled and took Chambers' groceries with him, police said. Chambers was reported in fair condition yesterday at Southeast Community Hospital.
