Fairfax County taxpayers who have not received their personal property tax forms in the mail may pick them up at various locations in the county. Newcomers to the county are required to secure a tax form at one of the following locations.

Personal property tax forms and Virginia state income tax forms are available at county assessment offices at 4100 Chain Bridge Rd., Fairfax; 6121 Franconia Rd., Franconia; 6210 North Kings Hwy., Groveton; 6507 Columbia Pike, Annandale; 1437 Balls Hill Rd., McLean; 11415 Isaac Newton Square, Reston, and 6140 Rolling Rd., Springfield. Forms are also available in all county public libraries.

Personal property taxes in Fairfax County must be paid on automobiles, trucks, motor homes, mobile homes, motorcycles, trailers, boats, outboard motors, airplanes, farm machinery, farm tools and livestock. Personal effects, household goods, money and securities are not taxed.

Individuals and businesses have until May 1 to file personal property tax returns with the Supervisor of Assessments. The penalty for late filing is 10 percent of the tax, with a minimum of $5. May 1 is also the deadline for filing Virginia state income tax returns.
