All federal, state and local government offices in Virginia and the District of Columbia will be closed Monday in observance of Memorial Day. Exceptions will be those that provide emergency services.

In Maryland, county offices in Montgomery and Prince George's will be closed. State offices will be open, but will be closed Friday, May 29 in observance of the holiday.

School: All schools in the metropolitan area will be closed Monday.

Banks: All area banks will be closed.

Liquor stores: Liquor stores in Montgomery County will be closed Monday, as will Virginia state Liquor stores. Stores in Prince George's County and the District are not required to close.

Mail: Mail will not be delivered on Monday but collections will be made from U.S. Postal Service collection oxes at times specified for holiday pickups.

Courts: All courts in the District and Virginia will be closed Monday. Courts in Maryland will be open Monday but will be closed next Friday.

Refuse: All trash will be removed as regularly scheduled except in the District, Montgomery County and Falls Church. In the District and Falls Church, trash will not be collected on Monday, and Monday's collections will be made on Tuesday. In both jurisdictions, Tuesday pickups will be made on Wednesday. In Montgomery County, Monday's trash collections will be made on the next regularly scheduled pickup day.

Transportation: Metrorail and Metrobus will operate Monday on Sunday schedules, as will the Silver Spring Ride-On service.
