An awards ceremony and banquet took place Saturday for participants in the Scotland Community Center's Youth Development Program of educational, recreational and career-development activites.
Approximately 125 persons attended the awards ceremony at the Scotland Community Center; the banquet followed at Bells Mill Elementary School.
Elementary school pupils who had completed the center's nine-month, after-school tutoring program, designed to help them improve their grades, were awarded certificates of scholastic achievement.
They are: La Shana Adams, Diane Archibald, John Arrington, Mellissa Clipper, Stephanie Clipper, Shawnette Dorsey, Kishna Dove, Lisa Gibbs, Yvette Gray, Sharee Hall, Sharmaine Hamlin, Melissa Hamlin, Eleanor Harris, Darryl Houston, Tammy Houston, Bridgette King, Rhonda Lefeged, Matthew Lyles, Raymond Meekins, Charles Moore, LaSharne Moore, Taures Moore, Yolande Palmer, Sterling Prather, Patricia Rice, Sagena Smith, Dereks Thomas, Laura Twyman, William Twyman Jr., Mary Frances Verdemin, Keisha Vinson, Paula Vinson, Lugenna Ware, Raveene Ware, Gerard Warren and Germaine Warren.
Certificates of appreciation also went to the high school students who tutored the younger children: They are Roxanne Cooper, Althea Davis, Bernice Davis, Marcellus Davis, Terri Gibbs and Annette Ware.
Trophies and certificates for outstanding in the center's gymnastics program were awarded to LaShana Adams, Kishna Dove, Bridgette King, Yolande Palmer, Laura Twyman and Paula Vinson. Trophies and certificates for gymnastics also went to Shawnette Dorsey, Yvette Gray, Sharee Hall, Rhonda Lefeged, Lugenna Ware, Raveene Ware and Germaine Warren.
