On Saturday, June 20, 1981, at Anderson Memorial Hospital, Anderson, S.C., ABSALOM WILLIS NORMAN of Clemson, S.C., beloved father of A.W. Norman, Jr. of Waynesboro, Va. Also survived by two sisters, Miss Bertha Norman and Mrs. James Pennoyer of Gaithersburg, Md.; two brothers, A. Gordon Norman of Hyattsville, Md. and William E. Norman of Gaithersburg, Md. Three grrandchildren and one great-grandchild also survive. The funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at The First Baptist Church of Clemson. Burial will be in Cemetery Hill. Mr. Norman was a native of Culpepper Co., Va., son of the late Joseph T. and Mary Belle Willis Norman. He was a graduate of Roanoke College where he was regarded as the institutions all time best athlete. He spent 51 years in the coaching profession, 34 of them coaching track, basketball, and football at Clemson University, the Citadel, Furman University and the University of South Carolina. He was a Veteran on World War I and was a representative of the U.S. in the Allied Games in Paris after World War I.
