Developers' plans for urban renewal parcels 47 and 49 -- about 450,000 square feet of vacant land between 12th and 14th streets, and Maine Avenue and D Street SW -- will be discussed by Advisory Neighborhood Commission 2D Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at St. Augustine's Episcopal Church/Temple Micah, 600 M Street SW. Representatives of four developers who plan to submit bids for the parcels by the Aug. 17 deadline recently met with an ANC-sponsored task force. All plan a combination of hotel, office and retail use of the site. The contractor will be chosen by the city's Redevelopment Land Agency with community participation. The ANC is circulating a draft agreement among prospective developers calling for jobs, training and business opportunities for minority and community residents, and an equity interest in the project for the Southwest/Southeast Economic Development Corp.
At the same meeting the ANC will consider complaints from residents of Capitol Park Towers at 301 G St. SW about a fence the management is constructing on the apartment grounds.
The Anc recently testified against the use of the former Capitol Park Apartments as the Capitol Park International Hotel at a public hearing held by the Redevelopment Land Agency. The ANC contends that hotel use of the iste violates the urban renewal plan for the area.
