All federal, state and local county offices will be closed Monday, Sept. 7, in observance of Labor Day. Emergency and essential services will be available.

Schools: Schools, already open for the fall term, will be closed Monday in Montgomery and Prince George's counties.

Libraries: All libraries in the metropolitan area will be closed Monday. In Alexandria and the District, they also will be closed Saturday and Sunday.

Liquor stores: Liquor dispensaries in Virginia and Montgomery County will be closed Monday. In Prince George's County and the District, liquor stores are not required to close.

Banks: All banks in the Washington area will be closed Monday.

Courts: All courts will be closed Monday.

Mail: On Monday, mail service will be limited to express mail and special delivery. Regular mail service will resume Tuesday.

Refuse: In Fairfax County, Fairfax City and Arlington County, trash collections will be made as regularly scheduled. In Alexandria, trash collections during the week will be made on the day after the regular pickup. In Falls Church and the District, Monday's pickups will be made on Tuesday, and Tuesday's pickups will be made on Wednesday. In Falls Church, there will be no special pickups on Wednesday. Supercan collections in Washington will be made on regular schedules.

In Prince George's and Montgomery counties, collections normally made on Monday will be made on the next regularly scheduled day. In Montgomery County, old newspaper and aluminum can pickups will not be made Monday, but the landfill will be open.

Transportation: Metrobus and Metrorail will operate on Sunday schedules on the holiday with rail service from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Off-peak fares will be in effect. The Silver Spring Ride-On will operate Monday on a Sunday schedule. The Gaithersburg Ride-On will not be in service Monday.

Traffic and parking: On Monday, regular weekday traffic restrictions will not be in effect nor should money be placed in parking meters.
