Bruce Marie Ewers Gibson, 73, a resident of the Washington area since 1925 who was active in church and civic organizations, died of cancer Sept. 19 at Arlington Hospital.

Mrs. Gibson, who was born in Fountain Inn, S.C., moved here to study law at George Washington University. She married Roy Harrison Ewers and they settled in Arlington, where the then Mrs. Ewers helped found the Woodlawn-Waycroft Citizens Association. She also was a charter member of the Westover Baptist Church and taught in its Sunday School.

She was a past president of Arlington Chapter No. 149 of the United Daughters of the Confederacy.

Mr. Ewers died in 1963. In 1966, his widow married Theodric Leith Gibson.

In addition to her husband, of Arlington, Mrs. Gibson is survived by three children, G. Harrison Ewers of Alexandria, Raymond E. Ewers of Springfield, and Virginia Bruce Williams of Melbourne Beach, Fla.; a stepson, William L. Gibson of McLean; a sister, Mattie Maie Cloe of Fredericksburg, Va.; a brother, Samuel J. Hughes of Falls Church; nine grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to a memorial fund in Mrs. Gibson's name at the Westover Baptist Church, Arlington, Va.
