Five persons died late Friday and early yesterday in separate auto accidents in Anne Arundel County, police said.

A three-car collision that claimed three lives occurred on Rte. 170 near Old Mill Road in Odenton, after a car trying to pass illegally hit another car head-on.

John Gilmore Taylor Jr., 22, of 6502 Central Ave., Seat Pleasant, was driving north on Rte. 170 when he tried to pass an auto going up an incline in a no-passing zone, according to police.

Taylor's car crashed head-on into a car traveling south, police said. The driver and a passenger in the southbound car were killed. They were identified as William D. Koeller, 31, and Laura Koeller, both of 7015-D Christian Loop, Fort Meade.

After being struck by Taylor's car, the Koeller car crashed into the car Taylor was attempting to pass, but none of the passengers in that car was seriously injured, police said.

At 12:30 a.m. yesterday, another accident occurred on Ritchie Highway at Arnold Road. Two teen-agers were killed when their car pulled in front of a van. Jeffrey Fischback, 17, of Arnold, and Michael Kirkpatrick, 18, of Glen Burnie, died in the accident. The driver of the van, whom police did not identify, was uninjured.
