In response to a request from commissioner Gloria R. Corn of Advisory Neighborhood Commission 3F, the D.C. Department of Transportation has agreed to install a new light pole on Gates Road NW near 31st Street. Residents had complained that the unlighted street was unsafe. The Department also has agreed to upgrade the lighting in the alley that parallels Connecticut Avenue between Chesapeake and Davenport streets NW. Residents blamed inadequate lighting for recent break-ins along Chesapeake Street. Several neighborhood residents, including Corn, toured the area with an official of the Department of Transportation, who recommended installing mercury lighting. Neighborhood residents who want to comment on this plan are asked to contact Corn through the ANC office, 362-6120, by Nov. 15.
The ANC also is seeking residents' reactions to the experimental traffic plan now in effect in the Reno Road corridor.
Improvements to the Forest Hills playground at Connecticut Avenue and Chesapeake Street NW, which the ANC and the Forest Hills Citizens Association worked for many years to upgrade, are now virtually complete. The ANC is working on a dedication ceremony and on guidelines for park users, especially with regard to dogs and the tennis courts. Tax-deductible contributions needed to complete the landscaping may be sent to Stephen Belcher, Treasurer, Forest Hills Citizens Association, 2935 Tilden Street NW., Washington DC 20008.
The ANC will hold its regular monthly business meeting at 8 p.m. Monday at the Edmund Burke School, 2955 Upton St. NW.
