A 27-year-old Fairfax man was killed Saturday night in what police describe as an accidental shooting at a Halloween party in Alexandria.

Henry Amini Shakkour of Manor House Drive in Fairfax Station was shot at 9:39 p.m. during a Halloween party at a three-story garden apartment complex on Armistead Drive. Police, who have not arrested any suspects nor filed any charges in connection with the incident, tentatively described the shooting as accidental, but said their investigation is not yet complete,

"The person who committed the shooting is known and the weapon has been recovered," a police spokesman said yesterday. But police would not provide further details, nor say whether the gun allegedly used in the shooting was part of a costume worn by a guest.

John Pitchford, who lives in an apartment near where the incident occured, said he was talking on the phone in his apartment when he heard something he thought was a firecracker.

"I heard one shot," recalled Pitchford, who said the party had been quiet. "I thought it was a firecracker," he added. "Then I heard the [front] door slam and someone ran out of the apartment. Next thing I knew the police had come."

Shakkour was taken to Alexandria Hospital and was pronounced dead at 10:30 p.m. from a gunshot wound to his lower neck.
