All federal, state, county and city offices in the Washington area except those that offer emergency services will be closed Thanksgiving Day.

Schools in Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia will be closed Thursday and Friday. There will be no regular postal service on Thursday, although special delivery and express mail will be delivered.

On Friday, all federal, state and local offices will be open in Maryland and the District. All federal and state offices will be open in Northern Virginia on Friday, but schedules of local governments will vary.

Trash will not be collected Thursday in Montgomery or Prince George's counties, and trash pickups will resume there next week on the regularly scheduled days. In the District, collection scheduled for Thursday will be made today. Scheduled Thursday Supercan collections will be made on Friday, and Friday collections will be made on Saturday. All other collections in the metropolitan area will be made according to schedule.

Liquor stores in Prince George's County and the District have the option to remain open on Thanksgiving Day, while liquor dispensaries in Virginia and Montgomery County will be closed.

Banks in the area will be closed on Thursday as will most retail stores.

Metrobus and Metrorail will operate on a Sunday schedule on Thursday, running from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Weekday traffic regulations will not be in effect.
