All federal, state, county and city offices in the Washington area except those that offer emergency services will be closed today, Thanksgiving Day.

Public schools in Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia also will be closed Friday. There will be no regular postal service today, although special delivery and express mail will be delivered.

On Friday, all federal, state and local offices will be open in Maryland and the District of Columbia. All federal and state offices will be open in Northern Virginia on Friday, but schedules of local governments will vary.

Trash will not be collected today in Montgomery or Prince George's counties, and trash pickups will resume there next week on the regularly scheduled days. Today's scheduled Supercan pickup in the District of Columbia will be made on Friday, and Friday collections will be made on Saturday. All other collections in the metropolitan area will be made on regular schedules.

Liquor stores in Prince George's County and D.C. have the option to remain open today, while liquor dispensaries in Virginia and Montgomery County will be closed.

Banks in the area will be closed today as will most retail stores.

Metrobus and Metrorail will operate on a Sunday schedule today and weekday traffic regulations will not be in effect.
