Doris Dicke Hiergesell, 57, a resident of Northern Virginia since 1964 who was active in church and volunteer organizations, died of cancer Thursday in her home in Falls Church.

She was a member of the Providence Presbyterian Church in Fairfax where she was president of the women's association and was an elder. Mrs. Hiergesell also was active in fund-raising activitites for the J.E.B. Stuart High School scholarship fund. She was a a chaplain of a chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star in Falls Church.

Mrs. Hiergesell was a native of Nebraska and was a civilian employe of the Army Air Forces during World War II. From 1956 to 1964, she lived in Johannesburg, South Africa, where her husband, Richard Hiergesell, worked for U.S. Steel, and she became president of the American Society of Johannesburg.

In addition to her husband, of Falls Church, her survivors include three sons, Richard Jr., of Rochester, N.Y., Robert, of Lincoln, Neb., and David, of Falls Church; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Dicke of McCook, Neb.; two brothers, Leonard Dicke of McCook, and Henry Jr., of Kearney, Neb., and three sisters, Donna Warlick of Lincoln, Marjarie Foster of Benkleman, Neb., and Letha Sutton of Denton, Tex.
