Ronald E. Connolly, 45, a financial programs manager in the Finance Department of Montgomery County since 1979 and a resident of Rockville, died Thursday in Mount Sinai Hospital in Baltimore as a result of injuries he received in an automobile accident earlier that day.
Anne Arundel County Police said Mr. Connolly was a passenger in a vehicle driven by his wife, Shirley J. Connolly, that was traveling on Riva Road in Riva, Md., when it collided with an on-coming vehicle driven by a woman from Davidsonville.
Police said the driver of the second car was charged with failure to keep to the right of the center line of the road and with driving while intoxicated. A spokesman for Anne Arundel General Hospital said both Mrs. Connolly and the driver of the second vehicle had been treated and released.
Mr. Connolly was born in Patterson, N.J., and reared in Cumberland, Md. He came to Washington after serving in the Air Force from 1954 to 1958. He earned an accounting degree at Strayer Business College. He was an accountant with the Washington Gas Light Company for seven years before joining the Montgomery County government.
He was a member of St. Jude's Catholic Church in Rockville and the Rockville Lions Club.
His marriage to the former Sandra Phipps ended in divorce.
In addition to his wife, of Rockville, Mr. Connolly's survivors include a son by his first marriage, Michael C. Connolly of Fort Myers, Fla.; two children by his second marriage, a son, Marc C., and a daughter, Kelly J. Connolly, both of Rockville; a stepdaughter, Suraya Zikria Teeple of Rockville, and two brothers, Douglas of Frederick, Md., and Joseph of Fairfax.
