All federal, state and local government offices in the Washington area will be closed tomorrow, New Year's Day. Emergency and essential services will be in operation.
Schools: All schools in the area will be closed. Public schools will resume Jan. 4.
Liquor: State-controlled liquor stores in Virginia will be closed tomorrow and will close at 6 p.m. Saturday. Stores in Montgomery County will also be closed. Liquor stores in Prince George's County and the District of Columbia are not required to close on holidays.
Refuse: Trash pickups will not be made tomorrow in Arlington, Falls Church, Montgomery County, Prince George's County and the District. Friday pickups in Arlington, Falls Church and the District will be made today. In Montgomery and Prince George's, pickups will be made on the next regularly scheduled day. Supercan collections in the District will be made on Saturday. In all other jurisdictions, collections will be made as normally scheduled.
Mail: There will be no regular mail service tomorrow. Only Special Delivery and Express deliveries will be made.
Transportation: Metrobus and Metrorail will operate on a Sunday schedule. Off-peak fares will be in effect. The Silver Spring Ride-On will also run a Sunday schedule. The Gaithersburg Ride-On will not run on the holiday.
Parking: Weekday parking and traffic regulations in the District will not be in effect tomorrow. Parking meter fees will not be required.
