Two Riverdale men and a 14-year-old girl were arrested and charged yesterday with three armed robberies in Prince George's County after one of the men was shot and wounded by a county police officer.
The wounded man, Robert Edward Stevens, 21, of the 6000 block of Longfellow Street, was in good condition in Prince George's General Hospital, where he was receiving treatment for gunshot wounds to his left thigh.
Stevens, who allegedly robbed a 7-Eleven store on Annapolis Road in Lanham at 2:27 a.m. while armed with a sawed-off shotgun, was shot as he left the store by Officers Ronald Kaszupski and Winfred Walton. It is not yet known which officer wounded the suspect. The officers were placed on leave pending a probe.
Stevens fled but was arrested within an hour after he arrived at Prince George's General Hospital seeking medical attention.
Shortly after the robbery, police arrested Glen Vincent Rhodes, 31, of the 5300 block of 62nd Avenue, and a 14-year-old Riverdale girl who were in a parked car two blocks away from the store. They were charged with armed robbery.
Police also charged the three suspects with the armed robberies of the 7-Eleven store on Finns Lane in Lanham, which occurred at 2:13 a.m., and the armed robbery of George's Tavern on Edmonston Road in Bladensburg, which took place at 11:10 p.m. on Monday.
