The D.C. Department of Transportation has mailed about 300,000 motor vehicle tag renewal applications to District residents.
Vehicle owners who have no outstanding tickets or other tag problems will receive the regular, three-part forms. They may purchase tags by mail until March 15 and in person through March 31 at several locations.
The 69,000 motorists with delinquent tickets will receive a special five-part form and may pay their tickets and renew their tags by mail or in person.
For the first time, Visa and Master Card will be accepted for payment of fines and registration fees at the Municipal Center, 301 C St. NW, Room 1038, weekdays through March 15, from 8:15 a.m. until 3:45 p.m.
Owners of small pickup trucks and vans weighing less than 6,000 pounds, which are used only for private purposes and currently have commercial tags, may obtain passenger vehicle tags. Owners should bring their tag renewal applications to the Municipal Center to have fees corrected and new tags issued.
The Department of Transportation urges motorists to pay by mail. Mail requests should be sent no later than March 15 to ensure receipt of tag revalidation stickers before the March 31 deadline. In-person tag renewal sales will begin March 1. Information on tag sale locations, dates and operating hours are being sent with the applications.
