A Prince George's County grand jury yesterday indicted five men on charges of murder in the death of Raymond Hubbard, an off-duty county policeman. He was killed during a jewelry store robbery in Hillcrest Heights last February.
The jury returned indictments on charges of first-degree murder and armed robbery against Ronald Drake, 24, Terrance Harris, 24, and Roger West, 28, all of the District of Columbia, and Horatio and Harlow Sails, aged 24 and 20, brothers from New Carrollton.
Hubbard, 28, was killed Feb. 8 as he attempted to stop two robbers from fleeing the Kay Jeweler's store in the Iverson Mall. The gunmen were the object of a massive manhunt by District of Columbia and Prince George's police which resulted in four arrests on Feb. 25. Police said West is still a fugitive.
The Sails brothers and Drake also face armed robbery charges in connection with the holdup of a Safeway store in Suitland three days before the Hubbard shooting. They are being held without bond in the county detention center in Upper Marlboro. Harris, who police said received a gunshot wound during the jewelry store robbery, remains in the custody of District of Columbia police.
