Two Virginia men were arrested at a Prince George's County marina and charged in connection with a beating death of an Alexandria man whose body was found beneath a heavy wood pallet at the Fort Washington dock, Prince George's police said yesterday.

Police said the body of 40-year-old Joseph R. Harrington was found early Sunday morning beneath a 60-pound wooden platform.

A police spokesman said Harrington was one of about 10 guests attending a houseboat party that left Saturday afternoon from the Tantallon Yacht Club, about 20 minutes away from the marina where the body was found.

Police said that while the houseboat was at sea, Harrington apparently got into an argument with one of the other guests.

The boat docked briefly at Fort Washington. Harrington left to find a way home, police said, but was followed by two of the guests.

Police said Harrington was robbed and beaten to death in the parking lot and his assailants hid the body beneath the wooden pallet.

Police arrested two Virginia men, Earl Daniel Martin, 31, of Alexandria, and James Otis Carroll, 34, of Fairfax, at the Tantallon Yacht Club about 7:30 Sunday night in connection with the death.

A police spokesman said yesterday the two were being held in the Prince George's Detention Center in Upper Marlboro in lieu of bail.
