All federal, state and local government offices in the Washington metropolitan area will be closed Monday, July 5, in observance of the Independence Day holiday. Emergency and essential services will remain in operation.

All courts, banks and libraries in the area will be closed.

Mail: There will be no regular postal service on Monday. Service will be limited to Special Delivery and Express Mail.

Trash: Trash collections will take place as normally scheduled in Fairfax County, Fairfax City and Arlington. In Prince George's and Montgomery counties, collections usually made on Monday will be made on the next normally scheduled day. In the District of Columbia and Falls Church, Monday pickups will be made on Tuesday and Tuesday pickups will be made on Wednesday. In both jurisdictions, Wednesday collections will be made normally, but in Falls Church no special pickups will be made. Supercan collections in the District of Columbia will run one day late. Trash collections in Alexandria will also be one day late.

Transportation: Metrorail and Metrobus will operate Monday on Sunday schedules. Regular fares will be charged. The Silver Spring Ride-On will run on a Sunday schedule. The Gaithersburg Ride-On will not operate.

Traffic: Weekday traffic regulations will not be in effect on Monday and parking meter payment will not be required.
