The following road projects are scheduled to be started with $30 million from a bond issue approved by voters in 1981. Although studies are set to begin on all the projects by this summer, it may be several years before construction work begins. Most road projects require three preliminary steps before construction. The first is a study of transportation needs. Second comes an engineers' design. The county then seeks right-of-way and easement acquisitions. The final stage is construction.

The following are the 14 projects that will be covered by the bond issue and the status of each:

Gallows Road. Widen from two lanes to four lanes from Idylwood Road to Rte. 7 and realign near Tysons Corner. STATUS: Construction to begin this summer.

Chain Bridge Road. Widen from two lanes to four lanes from Rte. 123 to Westmoreland Street. STATUS: Right-of-way acquisition under way.
