Harry Hughes, 55-year-old Democrat, is completing his first term as governor. An attorney, he was elected in 1978. A former secretary of state Department of Transportation, Hughes served for four years in the House of Delegates and for 12 years in the State Senate. Hughes is chairman of the transportation, commerce and technology committee of the National Gobernors' Association. He resides at Government House, Annapolis.

Harry W. Kelley, is serving his sixth term as the mayor of Ocean City. The 64-6ear-old Democrat is the owner and operator of several hotels and apartment buildings. Before becoming mayor, Kelley was a member of the Ocean City town council for 16 years. Kelley has been appointed to state commissions and task forces on energy and tourism. He resides at 310 13th St., Ocean City.

Harry J. McGuirk, a state senator, served for six years in the House of Delegartes before being elected to the Senate where he has been chairman of the economic affairs committee. The 58-year-old Democrat is a real estate broker and consultant. McGuirk is a member of the executive board of the Southern Conference of the Council of State Government. He lives at 310 Long Island Ave., Baltimore.


Robert A. Pascal is the county executive of Anne Arundel County. A 48-year-old Republican businessman, Pascal was first elected as county executive in 1974 and was reelected in 1978. He served as a state senator for four years and was elected as a delegate to the state constitutional convention. He is a former All-American football player at Duke University and played professional football in Canada. He lives at 364 White Cedar Lane, Severna Park.

Ross Z. Pierpont is a medical doctor and surgeon. He is chief of surgery at Maryland General Hospital and assistant clinical professor of surgery at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. A 65-year-old Republican, Pierpont is also a businessman and investor, with interests in real estate and oil and gas. He belongs to numerous professional and civic organizations. He resides at 5602 Enderly Road, Baltimore.
