All federal offices, and government offices in Virginia, Montgomery County and the District of Columbia will be closed Monday, Oct. 11 for the Columbus Day holiday.

Emergency and essential services will be available.

Columbus Day will be observed in Maryland on Tuesday, Oct. 12, when state and Prince George's County and city offices will be closed.

Schools: Schools in the District and Northern Virginia will be closed on Monday. Schools in Prince George's and Montgomery counties will be open on Monday, but will close on Friday.

Liquor Stores: Liquor dispensaries in Virginia and Montgomery County will be closed Monday.In Prince George's County and the District liquor stores are not required to close.

Libraries: All libraries in the District, Northern Virginia and Montgomery County will be closed on Monday. Prince George's County libraries will be open.

Banks: All banks in the Washington metropolitan area will be closed on Monday.

Courts: All courts in the District and Northern Virginia will be closed Monday. Maryland courts will be open Monday but closed Tuesday.

Mail: On Monday, mail service in the Washington metropolitan area will be limited to express mail and special delivery.

Trash Collection: In the District and Falls Church, Monday's pickups will be made Tuesday, and Tuesday's pickups will be made Wednesday. Alexandria will not have pickups on Monday. Fairfax County will collect refuse on Monday. Falls Church will not have a special Wednesday pickup. Supercan collections in Washington will be made one day late. Regular pickups will be made on Monday in Montgomery County.

Transportation: Metrobus and Metrorail will operate on a Saturday schedule with rail service from 6:30 a.m. to midnight. Off-peak fares will be in effect. The Silver Spring Ride-On will operate Monday on a Saturday schedule. The Gaithersburg Ride-On will operate Monday on a Saturday schedule.

Traffic and Parking: On Monday, regular weekday traffic restrictions will not be in effect nor should money be placed in meters in the District, Northern Virgina and Montgomery County.
