Catherine Elene, 85, an editor and announcer with the Russian service of the Voice of America for 30 years before retiring in 1977, died of cancer Oct. 28 at George Washington University Hospital. She lived in Alexandria.

Mrs. Elene left her native Russia in 1919. She lived in Germany, France and Czechoslovakia before coming to this country in the 1940s. She moved to this area in 1954.

She did volunteer work with the Washington chapter of the American Red Cross.

Her marriage to Nicholas Eleneff ended in divorce.
