Four young men were killed late Thanksgiving night when their car ran off U.S. 11 and crashed into a tree near Chilhowie in Smith County, Virginia State Police said yesterday.

They identified the dead as Daniel McKinney Price Jr., 19, of Saltville, driver of the 1967 Chevrolet Nova; Billy Dean Harris, 16, of Chilhowie, and Walter Noah Doss Jr., 24, and Richard Neal Widner, 20, both of Glade Spring.

State trooper D.B. Hale said the wreck occurred about 11:20 p.m. on a straight stretch of the two-lane highway less than a mile east of Chilhowie.

All four victims apparently were killed instantly by multiple head injuries and various fractures, the trooper added.

State police said one other traffic death was reported, that of Wilbert Earl Porter, 26, of Windsor.

They said he was killed Thanksgiving night when his auto ran off Virginia 258 in Isle of Wight County.
