Three police departments have filed 11 charges against a nude motorist who led police on a 75-mile chase through the Virginia countryside Thursday, crashing into at least a dozen patrol cars and injuring two policemen, authorities said.

Charles T. Lyles, 31, of Woodbridge is being held without bail in Warren County jail near Front Royal.

Police from four counties chased Lyles from Rte. 123 near Occoquan in Fairfax County to the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains outside Front Royal. Police said the driver tossed clothes and other items out the window during the chase and was nude when they finally stopped him.

The Virginia State Police arrested Lyles on seven charges, including hit-and-run for injuring a state trooper, hit-and-run for damaging two police cruisers and ramming through several farmers' fences and gates on Rte. 713, driving with a revoked or suspended license, reckless driving and felonious assault with an automobile.

The Prince William County Sheriff's Department filed three charges: reckless driving and eluding police, felonious assault and attempted felonious assault, sheriff's deputies said.

Warren County officials arrested Lyles for assault with an automobile, with its investigation continuing, police said. Clarke County sheriff's deputies said their investigation also is continuing.
