Fred J. Melisano, 68, a former owner of the sheet music department at Campbell's Music Store in Washington, died of a heart ailment Dec. 7 at North Miami General Hospital in North Miami, Fla.

Mr. Melisano, who had lived in North Miami since leaving the Washington area in 1973, was born in New York City. He moved to Washington in 1942 and served in the Army in Europe in World War II. After the war, he went to work at Kitt's Music Store. From 1955 to 1966, he worked for various music firms in New York.

He then returned here and purchased the sheet music department at Campbell's. He remained there until about 1972. He worked briefly for Ellsworth's Music Studios in Bethesda before moving to Florida and establishing the North Miami Music Co. He retired in 1980.

He was a former resident of Rockville and a member of St. Jude's Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife, Christine, of North Miami; five daughters, Barbara Irvin of Jacksonville, Fla., Suzanne Melisano of Coral Gables, Fla., Marie Belin of Clearfield, Pa., and Annette and Frances Melisano, both of North Miami; two sons, Andrew of Silver Spring, and Fred Jr. of Miami Beach, Fla.; one brother, three sisters, and two grandchildren.
