Because Christmas falls on a Saturday this year, the federal government and many area jurisdictions will observe the Christmas holiday tomorrow, Dec. 24.

All federal offices except the U.S. Postal Service will be closed tomorrow. Post offices will be open and mail will be delivered normally.

Banks in the District of Columbia and Virginia will be closed, but Maryland banks will be open.

All area courts will be closed.

Metrobus will operate on a Saturday schedule tomorrow. Metrorail will operate from 6:30 a.m. to midnight tomorrow and Christmas Day, with off-peak fares in effect. The Silver Spring Ride-On will operate on a Sunday schedule. The Gaithersburg Ride-on will not be in operation.

Northern Virginia and Montgomery County schools are closed for the holidays beginning today, and Prince George's and D.C. schools will be closed beginning tomorrow. All area schools will remain closed until after New Year's.

State and county offices in Maryland and Virginia will be closed tomorrow, except for Fairfax, which is open for half a day. District of Columbia government offices will be closed.

Liquor stores in Montgomery County will operate between the hours of 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. Virginia liquor stores will close at 6:00 p.m.

All area libraries will be closed tomorrow, with the exception of Fairfax, where libraries will be open for half a day.

Supercan collections will be made on schedule in Washington, and tomorrow's regular trash collection will be made today. In Arlington and Falls Church, tomorrow's pickup will be made today.

Parking meter payments will not be required in the District; enforcement of traffic and parking regulations will vary among other jurisdictions.
