When it comes to arts programs, Northern Virginians are lucky. There are always opportunities for them to participate in stage productions.

The spring playhouse season will be upon us soon. That means that auditions for most productions are scheduled to begin within a few weeks. Here is a partial listing of auditions being held by area theater groups: Alexandria:

Auditions for The Little Theatre of Alexandria's production of "The Chalk Garden" will be at 2 p.m. Feb. 26 and at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 27. Auditions for The Little Theatre's production of "Never Too Late" will be at 2 p.m. April 16 and at 7:30 p.m. April 17. Auditions for The Port City Playhouse's production of "By Strouse" will be from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Monday and Tuesday. Auditions for Port City's production of "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" will be from 7:30 to 10 p.m. March 14 and 15. Wordstage Reader's Theatre's production of "New You's Eve" will hold auditions at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 31. Its "The War of the Worlds" auditions will be at 7:30 p.m. March 14. Children's Theatre auditions for "The Spring Countywide Children's Theatre" production are scheduled for 7 p.m. tomorrow, Room 173, Falls Church High School, 7521 Jaguar Trail. The Blue Ridge Alliance for the Performing Arts' production of "The Hobbit" will hold auditions from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Friday at the Sterling Library, from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Sterling Community Center, 120 Enterprise, and from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at St. James Episcopal Church in Leesburg. If your children have an interest in performing but do not feel prepared to audition right away, Fairfax County offers a winter theater workshop for children ages 10 through 18. Eight Saturday workshops beginning Jan. 15 and continuing through March 12 will be held from 10 a.m. until noon. Six of the classes will be held at the Joyce Kilmer Intermediate School, 8100 Wolftrap Rd., Vienna. The two remaining classes will be held at George Mason University.
