The Virginia State Highway and Transportation Commission has awarded five contracts for highway construction, maintenance, and resurfacing projects for roads in Northern Virginia.

The five projects are:

Fauquier, Prince William, and Fairfax counties--For Interstate 66 and 495: Replacing the slope protection under bridges at 13 locations. Awarded to F.E. Gregory and Sons Inc., Gaithersburg, Md., for $211,270.

Arlington County--For Interstate 66: Landscape planting along 1.1 miles of roadway between Glebe Road and Lee Highway. Awarded to Chapel Valley Landscape Company, Woodbine, Md., for $417,145.

Fairfax County--For Arlington Boulevard (Rte. 50): Installation of a traffic signal system at 11 intersections between Covington Street and Annandale Road. Awarded to Richard F. Kline Inc., Frederick, Md., for $331,916.

Also, for Leesburg Turnpike (Rte. 7): Widening along a stretch of 1.2 miles to provide six travel lanes plus turning lanes at intersections between the Capital Beltway and West Park Drive at Tysons Corner. Awarded to Shirley Contracting Corporation, Lorton, for $746,714.

Loudoun County--For secondary road Rte. 621: Grading, draining and paving 4.2 miles of two-lane roadway on an improved alignment between Leesburg and Evergreen Mills. Awarded to Richard F. Kline Inc., Frederick, Md., for $947,565.
