Two persons were killed and another critically injured in two traffic accidents in Maryland over the weekend, authorities said yesterday.

In Silver Spring, a man died after his car ran into an oncoming vehicle on Bonifant Road shortly before 2 a.m. Saturday, Montgomery County police said.

Police said Joseph Wurdeman, 29, of the 8600 block of Bradford Court, Silver Spring, was driving east on the Montgomery County road when he tried to make a turn and lost control of his car. Officials said Wurdeman's car struck a westbound vehicle driven by Michele Spotz, 19, of the 2600 block of Village Lane, Silver Spring. Spotz received minor injuries and was treated and released. Wurdeman was pronounced dead at the scene. An investigation is continuing, police said.

In Frederick County, police said Shawn Fausey, 19, of Sunbury, Pa., was killed when the northbound car he was riding in spun out of control Friday night and crossed the center line of U.S. Rte. 15, about a mile north of Lewistown.

The car was struck by a southbound vehicle driven by Steven Yingling, 18, of Thurmont, police said. Yingling was treated and released, but the driver of the car Fausey was riding in, Michael Louise, 18, of Emlenton, Pa., was in critical condition yesterday at Frederick Memorial Hospital.
