Johnnie A. V. Brown Briley, 56, a former Prince Gerorge's County public school teacher, died of cancer Jan. 26 at the Malcolm Grow Medical Center at Andrews Air Force Base.
Mrs. Briley, who lived in Clinton, was born in Carrollton, Va., and graduated from St. Paul College in Lawrenceville, Va. She later earned a master's degree at Virginia State University.
She taught school in four other states and in Spain and Italy before she became a resident at Andrews Air Force Base in 1969. Mrs. Briley taught in Prince George's public schools from 1970 to 1981.
During her career, she earned several awards and certificates for outstanding service in her profession.
Mrs. Briley was a member of the Andrews Air Force Parish of the Catholic Church.
Survivors include her husband, James Boyd Briley of Clinton; four sons, James Jr., of Waldorf, Johnnie B., of Alexandria, Lt. Jasey B., of Fort Bragg, N.C., and Jay B., of Fort Lee, Va.; three brothers, James S. Brown Sr. and Charles Brown Jr., both of Smithfield, Va., and Milton B. Brown Sr. of Richmond; three sisters, Ernestine B. Johnson of Columbia, Md., Ruby B. Irving of Hampton, Va., and Zelma B. George of Williamsonburg, Va.; and one grandchild.
