Motor vehicle tag renewal applications have been mailed to approximately 300,000 residents, according to D.C. Transportation and Public Works Director Thomas M. Downs.

Drivers who have no outstanding tickets or other tag problems will receive a three-part forms and will be able to purchase tags by mail until March 15 and in person through March 31.

Approximately 54,000 motorists who have delinquent tickets will receive a five-part form and will be able to pay their tickets and renew their tags in one operation by mail or in person.

Information on tag sale locations, dates and operating hours is enclosed with the tag applications.

Because District motorists were to have been required to obtain compulsory insurance by April 1, the back of the tag renewal form contains space and instructions for providing information about insurance. But since the D.C. City Council is considering a delay at the request of the mayor, motorists are asked to disregard the requirement for insurance information at this time.

Credit card payments for tickets and registration will be accepted from 8:15 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays in the Municipal Center, 301 C St. NW, Room 1003.

License tag revalidation stickers must be displayed before midnight, March 31.
