A Riverdale man has been charged with fatally stabbing his estranged wife during an argument in a parked car in College Park early yesterday, Prince George's County police reported.
The man, Gary Bright, 41, was admitted to Prince George's General Hospital for treatment of what police described as self-inflicted wounds to both arms.
Police said Bright and his estranged wife, Wanda N. Bright, 37, of 5400 Towhatten St., Riverdale, and another couple, were sitting in a car in the parking lot of the Towle House Restaurant at 9206 Baltimore Ave. when the Brights began to argue about whether Wanda Bright would marry another man.
The friends left the couple alone for a few hours, returning to the car shortly before 5 a.m., police said. The friends then got back in the car and drove away, believing that both of the Brights were asleep in the back seat. As the car began moving, Gary Bright told his friends that he and his wife were dying, according to police.
The friends, whom police would not name, drove to the Hyattsville police station where Wanda Bright was pronounced dead.
Bright, who lives at 5410 54th Ave. in Riverdale, has been charged with first-degree murder. The victim's body was taken to the medical examiner's office in Baltimore for an autopsy. Both of the Brights were unemployed, police said.
