Four persons were fatally injured in three traffic accidents here Saturday night, area police reported.

Two 17-year-old youths died after the car in which they were riding struck an abutment of the bridge that carries Rte. 123 over the George Washington Memorial Parkway in Mclean and burst into flames.

Fairfax police identified the victims as Matthew T. Cluff of 2411 N. Upshur St. Arlington, the driver, and Scott T. Horsley of Pittsford, N.Y.

Police said that the car was northbound on Rte. 123 at about 11:45 p.m. when it went out of control after passing another vehicle and slid sideways into an abutment.

At about the same time, 20-year-old Russell R. Scott, of 2206 Alice Ave., Oxon Hill, was fatally injured in a two-car crash in the 1800 block of Palmer Road in Prince George's County. Police said that Scott was attempting to pass another auto when his car skidded into an oncoming car. The driver of the second car was not seriously injured, they said.

Earlier Saturday night, a Gaithersburg man died of multiple head injuries after the car he was driving went out of control in upper Montgomery County and crashed into a tree, county police said.

They said that Robert M. Gonder, 40, of 13324 Query Mill Rd. was driving south on Turkey Foot Road in Darnestown shortly before 8 p.m. when the accident occurred. He was pronounced dead a short time later at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital.
