A District Heights man was sentenced yesterday to a minimum 31 years in prison following his conviction by a D.C. Superior Court jury on charges of rape and burglary.
Arthur Lee Scott, 35, of 5231 Marlborough Pike, was convicted of rape, assault, sodomy, carrying a dangerous weapon and two counts of burglary stemming from two separate incidents in 1981.
According to a memorandum entered in court yesterday by Assistant U.S. Attorney F. Joseph Warin, Scott has previously been convicted of larceny, burglary, robbery, firearm and narcotics charges.
Warin asked Judge George H. Revercomb to impose a maximum sentence of 51 years to life. Scott asked for a lesser sentence, saying that none of his previous offenses had been violent.
Revercomb ordered Scott to serve 15 years to life for rape while armed, three to 10 years for sodomy and 10 years to life for burglary while armed, all to run concurrently.
Additionally, Revercomb imposed sentences of 15 years to life for a second charge of burglary while armed, 10 years to life for assault with intent to commit rape and one year for carrying a dangerous weapon, a knife.
Those additional sentences are to run concurrently with each other, but consecutive to the earlier sentences. Scott must serve 31 years before he will become eligible for parole, law enforcement officials said.
