A 7-year-old Landover girl was fatally injured and three other persons were injured Tuesday night in a head-on collision on Interstate Rte. 295, D.C. Police reported.
The dead girl, identified as Rene Woodard of 7322 Landover Rd., was sitting in the passenger seat of a northbound car that left the ground, hurdled a guardrail and ran into a southbound car at 9:30 p.m. near the 11th Street Bridge exit.
Woodard was taken to the Washington Hospital Center and then transferred to Children's Hospital where she was pronounced dead several hours later, police said.
Police said that the car carrying Woodard was driven by Winston Kemp, 42, of the Landover Road address. He was taken to the Hospital Center where he was listed in stable condition.
Also in the car was Venus Woodard, 11, of the same address, who was taken to the Greater Southeast Community Hospital where she was listed in fair condition, officials there said.
The driver of the southbound car was identified as Tony Jones, 39, of 6607 Middlefield Rd. in Oxon Hill. He was listed in good condition at Greater Southeast, with cuts on his nose and chin and a bruise on his chest, officials said.
Kemp was charged with driving at an unreasonable speed, police said.
