The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority has announced that it will adjust service on many Virginia Metrobus routes beginning June 26. According to Metro's announcement, made last week, the adjustments will in many cases provide direct connections to Metrorail's new Yellow Line at the Pentagon.

Running times will be adjusted on several routes that use the I-66 expressway to reflect the time saving that results, according to Metro. Other route adjustments are being made to correspond to changing travel patterns and ridership, the announcement said.

Following are the announced changes of individual route descriptions:

Route 1 (Wilson Boulevard Line)

The timetable for this route will be split in half, and the trips on Routes 1A, 1B, 1D, 1E, 1M, 1V and 1W will be designated as the Wilson Boulevard-Annandale Line. Routes 1C, 1F, 1X and 1Z will be designated the Wilson Boulevard-Fairfax Line. Minor adjustments will be made on travel times for many trips. New timetables will reflect the new running times.

Routes 5 A-H (Reston Express Line)

The timetable for this route will be split in half, and the trips on Routes 5A, 5B, 5C and 5D will be designated the North Reston Express Line. Routes 5E, 5F, 5G and 5H will be designated the South Reston Express Line. Running times will be adjusted to reflect the savings because of I-66. In addition, the Route 5E1 trips scheduled to leave Reston at 7:38 a.m. will be changed to operate via Rosslyn, bypassing the Pentagon. The Route 5E1 trip scheduled to leave Reston at 7:21 a.m. will bypass Rosslyn and operate via the Pentagon.

Route 5S (Herndon-Ballston Line)

Minor adjustments will be made to running times on Saturday to reflect current traffic conditions. This will result in minor changes to some trips. Consult new timetables.

Route 5Y (Herndon Express Line)

Running times will be changed to reflect the savings that result from using I-66. New timetables will be available.

Route 5Z (Tysons Corner Express Line)

Running times will be changed to reflect the savings that result from using I-66. New timetables will be available.

Route 6 (Parkfairfax-South Fairlington Line)

Route 6A--rush-hour service operating to Federal Triangle will be eliminated. New service is available via routes 6E, 6GH and 6L.

Route 6B--rush-hour service to Federal Triangle will be eliminated. New service is available via routes 6E, 6G and 6L. A new Route 6B/trip will leave the Pentagon at 4:15 p.m. and will operate to Park Center.

Route 6E--this route will be completely rescheduled. New trips will leave King and Radford streets at 6:26, 6:41, 6:56, 7:11, 7:26, 7:41, 8:01, and 8:21 a.m. Trips will leave the Pentagon at 4:35, 4:55, 5:12, 5:27, 5:44, 6:04 and 6:24 p.m.

Route 6G--this route will be completely rescheduled. New trips will leave Braddock Road and Early Street at 6:36, 6:57, 7:17, 7:37, 7:57, 8:17 and 8:32 a.m. Trips will leave the Pentagon at 4:25, 4:49, 5:08, 5:31, 5:50, 6:10 and 6:32 p.m.

Route 6L--this route will be completely rescheduled. New trips will leave Park Center at 6:49, 7:09, 7:30, 7:51 and 8:10 a.m. Trips will leave the Pentagon at 4:39, 4:59, 5:19, 5:40, 6 and 6:20 p.m.

Route 7 (Lincolnia-North Fairlington Line)

Routes 7A-F--minor adjustments will be made to individual trips on weekdays and Saturdays. On Sunday, service will be changed to operate at a 60-minute frequency. New timetables will be available.

Route 7D--rush-hour service will be changed to operate every 12 or 15 minutes.

Route 7E--trips presently scheduled to operate to and from Union Station via Constitution Avenue will operate to and from the Pentagon. Trips will operate every 12 to 15 minutes during rush hour.

Route 7G--this route will be eliminated. New service will be available via routes 7X, 7W, 8W and 8X.

Route 7M--this route will be eliminated. Replacement service will be provided by routes 7X and 7W.

Route 7L--this route will be eliminated. Replacement service will be provided by routes 7E and 7D.

Route 7W--trips presently scheduled to operate to and from Union Station or Federal Triangle will operate to and from the Pentagon. Rush-hour trips will operate every four to 10 minutes.

Route 7X--trips that presently operate to and from Union Station will be changed to operate to and from the Pentagon. All trips will be extended to Orleans Village to replace service on Route 7G. Rush-hour trips will operate e every 15 to 20 minutes.

Route 8 (Foxchase-Seminary Valley Line)

Route 8M--this route will be eliminated. Replacement service will be provided by routes 8W and 8X.

Route 8W--trips will operate every 12 to 15 minutes during rush hours.

Route 8X--trips scheduled to operate to and from Federal Triangle via Constitution Avenue will be changed to begin and end at the Pentagon. Trips will operate every 12 to 15 minutes during rush hours.

Route 9 (Fort Belvoir Line)

Routes 9A and 9B--all trips operating to Federal Triangle will begin or end at the Pentagon. There will be no change in the frequency of service. Some trips will be changed to end and begin at Richmond Highway and Old Mill Road in place of present routing to Fort Belvoir. These trips will be marked routes 9C and 9D.

Route 9P--this route will be eliminated. Replacement service is available via routes 9A and 9B.

Route 11 (National Airport-Washington Line)

There will be no changes to the present routing or frequency of service. However, the timetable for this route will be split, with routes 11A, 11M, 11P, 11T, 11W, 11Y and 11Z designated the National Airport-Washington Line and routes 11E and 11G designated the National Airport-Landmark Line. Routes 11B, 11C, 11F and 11X will be on a separate timetable and will be renamed the National Airport-Alexandria Line. Route 11D will be renamed the National Airport-Springfield Line. In addition, routes 11B and 11C trips scheduled to leave National Airport at 7:05, 7:25, 7:58 and 8:25 a.m. and at 3:54, 4:37, 4:59, 5:37 and 5:59 p.m. will be changed to operate via the North Waterfront-Trans-Potomac Complex. The new routing will be via Bashford Lane and Royal, Third, Second and Fairfax streets. There will be no other change in the present routing or the frequency of service on routes 11B and 11C.

Route 12 (Alexandria-Pentagon Line)

Route 12A--trips operating to and from Federal Triangle will operate to and from the Pentagon. There will be no change in the frequency of service.

Route 12B--this route will be eliminated. Replacement service will be available via routes 12E and 15B.

Route 12E--trips operating to and from Federal Triangle will operate to and from the Pentagon. Rush-hour trips will operate every 20 minutes.

Route 13 (Pentagon-Washington Line)

Routes 13A and 13B--this is new service between the Pentagon and downtown that will operate 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. weekdays and all day Saturday and Sunday. Route 13A will operate in a clockwise loop via Memorial Bridge and Federal Triangle, returning to the Pentagon via Memorial Bridge. Each route will operate every 60 minutes except Saturdays from 6 to 8 a.m. and on Sunday from 7 to 10 a.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. when each route will operate every 30 minutes.

Routes 13C and 13D--these are new rush-hour routes that will operate between the Pentagon and Capitol Hill via loops that use Memorial Bridge for part of the trip and the 14th Street Bridge for the other. Trips will operate every 12 to 15 minutes weekdays.

Route 13E--this is a new route between the Pentagon and Federal Triangle via Memorial Bridge that will operate every 12 minutes from 7:15 to 8:15 a.m. weekdays. All Route 13 trips will begin or end at Pentagon bus platforms R and S.

Route 14 (Alexandria-Pentagon Line)

Route 14A--trips operating to and from Federal Triangle will operate to and from the Pentagon. There will be no change to the frequency of service.

Route 14B--trips operating to and from Federal Triangle will operate to and from the Pentagon. There will be no change in levels of service provided.

Route 14E--this route will be eliminated. It will be replaced by routes 14A and 14B.

Route 15 (Alexandria-Pentagon Line)

Route 15A--trips operating to and from Federal Triangle will be changed to operate to and from the Pentagon. There will be no change in the number of trips operated.

Route 15B--this route will be rerouted via 15th and S. Joyce streets and Army-Navy Drive. Trips operating to and from Federal Triangle will operate to and from the Pentagon. Service will be every 20 minutes between 6:30 and 8:30 a.m. weekdays and between 4:30 and 6:40 p.m. weekdays.

Route 15D--trips that operate to and from the Federal Triangle will operate to and from the Pentagon. Trips will operate every 20 minutes between 6:30 and 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 and 6:30 p.m. weekdays,

Route 16 (Columbia Pike Line)

Route 16A-D--trips that operate to and from Union Station will be changed to operate to and from the Pentagon. Trips will operate every 60 minutes between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. weekdays.

Route 16B--trips that operate to Union Station will be changed to operate to and from the Pentagon. Trips will operate every 60 minutes from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. weekdays. Rush-hour trips will operate every 30 minutes.

Route 16C--all trips will begin and end at the Pentagon instead of Union Station. From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. weekdays, trips will operate every 60 minutes. Rush-hour trips will operate every 30 minutes. Saturday service will operate every 40 minutes from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. and every 60 minutes from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Route 16E--weekday service will be eliminated. Replacement service will be provided by Route 16F. Saturday and Sunday service will operate to and from the Pentagon instead of Union Station. Saturday service will operate every 40 minutes between 6 a.m. and 9 p.m. and every 60 minutes between 9 p.m. and 12:30 a.m. Sunday service will operate every 60 minutes from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Service after 9:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday will turn back at Culmore.

Route 16F--this is a new route that will operate between Culmore and the Pentagon every eight to 10 minutes during rush hours. It will follow the routing of the 16B except that express service will be provided. There will be no boarding and alighting permitted between Columbia Pike and George Mason Drive and the Pentagon. Some trips will begin and end at Baileys Crossroads.

Route 16L--this route will begin and end at John Marr Drive and Little River Turnpike instead of Heritage Mall. Rush-hour service will operate every 15 minutes. Replacement service for the discontinued part of the route will be provided by Route 29H.

Route 16 (Shirlington-Pentagon Line)

Route 16U--trips will operate every 30 minutes during rush hours.

Route 16V--this route will be eliminated. Replacement service will be available on Route 16W.

Route 16W--this route will be changed to serve Skyline City. Rush-hour trips will operate every 15 minutes.

Route 16X--all trips will operate to and from Arlington Mill Drive and Taylor Street. Rush-hour trips will operate every 15 minutes.

Route 17 (Kings Park Line)

Route 17A--this route will be changed to operate to George Mason University via Commonwealth Boulevard; Sideburn, Braddock and Ox roads; and University Drive. There will be no change to the number and frequency of trips.

Route 17B--trips will be renamed Route 17C. There will be no change in routing, frequency of service or hours of service.

Route 17G--rush-hour trips will be extended to serve George Mason University. All trips will operate to or from the Pentagon instead of Federal Triangle. There will be no change in the frequency or hours of service.

Route 17H--rush-hour trips to the Federal Triangle will begin and end at the Pentagon. Trips will operate every 15 minutes during rush hours.

Route 17K--rush-hour trips will serve Glen Cover and the Wood Wren developments in Kings Park West via Sideburn Road, Zion Drive and Guinea Road. Trips will operate every 15 minutes during rush hours.

Route 17L--minor adjustments to arrival and departure times will be made on some trips. Consult new timetables.

Route 17M--rush-hour trips will begin and end at the Pentagon instead of Southwest Mall. There will be no change to the frequency or hours of service.

Route 18 (Springfield-Pentagon Line)

Route 18A--this route will operate via Landmark on Walker Street, Stevenson Avenue, Yoakum Parkway and Edsall Road. Service in West Springfield will operate via Greeley and Forrester boulevards and Rolling Road on southbound trips only. There will be no change to the hours or frequency of service.

Route 18D--rush-hour trips will operate in Landmark via Edsall Road and Yoakum Parkway. Trips will operate every 30 minutes.

Route 18E--rush-hour trips will be extended to serve Backlick Road between Old Keene Mill Road and Highland. Trips will operate every 15 minutes during rush hours.

Route 18G--rush-hour trips will operate to and from the Pentagon instead of Federal Triangle. Morning rush-hour trips will operate every 20 minutes. Evening rush-hour trips will operate every 15 minutes.

Route 18M--rush-hour trips will operate to Carrleigh Parkway and Keene Mill Road via Carrleigh Parkway, Forester Boulevard, Rolling and and Keene Mill roads. All trips will begin or end at the Pentagon instead of Southwest Mall. Morning trips will operate every 20 minutes. Evening trips will operate every 15 minutes.

Route 19 (Huntington Line)

Route 19G--all trips will begin or end at the Pentagon instead of Federal Triangle. Trips will operate every 15 or 20 minutes during rush hours. This route will be moved to Platform A at the Pentagon.

Route 21 (Landmark Line)

Route 21A--rush-hour trips will begin or end at the Pentagon instead of Federal Triangle. Trips will operate every 12 to 15 minutes during rush hours.

Route 21B--trips will operate every 12 to 15 minutes during rush hours.

Route 21C--rush-hour trips will begin or end at the Pentagon instead of Federal Triangle. Trips will operate every 15 to 20 minutes during rush hours. Route 21 will be moved to Platform B at the Pentagon.

Route 27 (Hayfield-Franconia Line)

Route 27B--rush-hour trips will be rerouted to serve the Springfield Mall fringe parking lot. Trips will pass Springfield Mall at 6:32, 6:52, 7:07, 7:21, 7:35, 7:49, 8:04 and 8:34 a.m. Evening trips will leave the Pentagon at 4:28, 4:42, 4:57, 5:12, 5:27, 5:41, 6 and 6:28 p.m.

Route 27X--there will be no change in routing. Trips will pass Telegraph and Hayfield roads at 6:33, 6:47, 7:04, 7:20 and 7:37 a.m. and leave the Pentagon at 4:23, 4:38, 4:53, 5:38, 6:15 and 6:40 p.m.

Route 27P--this route will be eliminated. Alternate services will be available via new Route 27B.

Route 28G (Skyline City Line)

All trips will operate to or from the Pentagon instead of Federal Triangle. Trips will operate every 15 to 20 minutes during rush hours.

Route 29 (Annandale Line)

Route 29A--this route will be eliminated. Alternate service to and from the Pentagon will be available on routes 17A, 17B, 27H, 18A or 18B with a transfer to Route 29K, 29N or 29L at Landmark needed to complete the trip.

Route 29B--this will be changed in the same manner as 29G. There will be no change in the hours or frequency of service.

Route 29G--this route will be changed to operate to and from Patriot and Americana drives via Patriot Drive. Trips will be operated every eight to 15 minutes during peak hours.

Route 29H--a new route to provide rush-hour service between Heritage Mall and the Pentagon via Heritage Drive, Ravensworth Road, Jayhawk Street, Backlick Road, John Marr Drive, Little River Turnpike and I-395. Trips will operate every 20 minutes and will replace service presently provided by Route 16L.

Route 29X--rush-hour trips will be adjusted to leave Route 236 and Lake Drive at 6:27, 6:44, 6:59, 7:14, 7:34 and 7:54 a.m. and the Pentagon at 4:29, 4:44, 5, 5:16, 5:33, 5:50 and 6:10 p.m.

There also will be a change in platform assignments at the Pentagon. The new platform assignments will be listed at the platforms near the station entrance. They are:
